In honour of the coronation celebrations this month, we thought we would spotlight board games with a Royal theme. Here are four recommendations for that post-coronation event gaming session:
King of Tokyo. Richard Garfield's classic dice chucker, where players compete to become the ultimate monster king of Tokyo, was the first game we thought of. (King of New York also counts here)
The Castles of Burgundy. Compete to build and manage the finest royal estate by trading goods, constructing buildings, and developing their land in this popular classic.
Kingdomino. Place tiles and compete to build the most impressive kingdom in this beloved (and multiple-award-winning) strategy game.
Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig. In a unique twist on cooperative play in this game will have you collaborating with the player to either side of you to build two grand castles, however, each player will be awarded points for only the lower-scoring of the two castles.
Modern board games come with dozens of tokens, pawns, cards, miniatures, and assorted bits. These pieces can be intimidating unless organised.
Try labeling components in separate baggies and use card sleeves to protect your cards. (Custom inserts are also available for some popular games).
We use this system to make sure our rental customers not only receive all the components they need to enjoy the game but also find it easy to pack everything away again when the game is over.
